Our Confession of Faith in Jesus

What do you think of Jesus? Who do you say that Jesus is? Have you made a confession of faith in Jesus as Lord, Messiah, and God?

Our thoughts and beliefs about Jesus are of essential importance to our lives and are of eternal consequence. Our confession and faith in Jesus determines our life and salvation.

In his book The Knowledge of the Holy, A.W. Tozer, writes, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. ... Worship is pure or base as the worshiper entertains high or low thoughts of God.” (A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy).

In the gospel of Matthew, the Apostle Peter answered Jesus’ question, “‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.’” (Matthew 16:13-17, ESV).

Peter acknowledged and confessed that Jesus is God and that Jesus is the anticipated Messiah. Jesus called Peter blessed because he knew this truth and confessed it.

Like Simon Peter, may we confess Jesus as Lord, God, and Messiah, and may we find our blessing in this life and in eternity in Jesus Christ alone.

A Collect for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, or the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity (Proper 16): “Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
