The Help We Need
Do you need help? What kind of help do you need? Do you have all the help you need? Are you willing to ask for the help you need? Are you aware of the help God has given you through his Holy Spirit?
We all need help at some point in our lives. Sometimes we are aware of the help we need and other times we are not aware of the help we need. Many of us struggle to ask for help when we are overwhelmed or in need.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus promised, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:15-17, ESV).
Jesus promised that he would give us a helper, his own Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, to be with us forever and to help us in our time of need as we love and obey him. God’s Holy Spirit lives with us and is in us to help us and to lead us in all truth.
May we love Jesus and obey him and experience the presence and power of his Holy Spirit living with us and giving us the help we so desperately need in our lives.
A Collect for the The Day of Pentecost: Whitsunday: “Almighty God, on this day, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, you revealed the way of eternal life to every race and nation: Pour out this gift anew, that by the preaching of the Gospel your salvation may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
