Do you know that you have an eternal heavenly reward for following Jesus? Who has your reward? Where is your reward? What is the reward for, and why is it given?
As followers of Jesus, we can expect an eternal heavenly reward, which God has prepared for each of us who endure this life and it’s troubles, trials, and persecutions for living out our faith in this world.
In Matthew’s gospel account, Jesus said, “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12, ESV).
In this life we will have troubles, trials, and persecutions for living out a life of faith and obedience to Jesus. We are not without hope, however. God calls us blessed and has promised us a heavenly reward when we endure to the end and keep the faith.
May we endure the troubles, trials, and persecutions of this life in the confident hope of our great heavenly reward which God has prepared for each of us blessed ones as we endure to the end of this life.
A Collect for All Saints' Day: “Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical Body of your Son: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
A Collect for the Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost, or the Twenty-second Sunday after Trinity (Proper 26): “Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, as we live among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, 2019).
